A few years ago, my dad sadly passed away, and in the process of going through his belongings my family and I found ourselves with a stack of treasured photos of ancestors which had been passed down through the generations. These photos dated back 100 years or so, back to an era when most people didn’t own a camera and would indulge in a handful of professional photos in their lifetime – can you imagine?! These photos are so precious to me and my family because they are all the memories we have of family members who are no longer here, and I am so glad that they took the opportunity to have those photos captured and preserved so that we can reflect. My only sadness is that I never got the opportunity to have photos of, and with, my dad before he passed. It was something we always said we would do but never got around to it (because life gets busy, am I right?!) Besides snapshots friends and family took of my dad, which I treasure regardless, the last professional photo he had taken was when he was a young child.
It was at that moment, with a handful of old prints spread across my dining room table, that I knew I wanted to focus on fine art portraiture. I had an urge to capture and preserve families so that they can have beautiful photos, but also so that their children, their grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren can have a tangible memory of their ancestors in their hands in years to come.
While I’ve done natural portrait photography for 7 years now, I knew in that moment that this endeavour had to be different. It had to be special, different, timeless. It wasn’t long before I discovered the incredible photographer, Sue Bryce, and felt like I had found my calling.
Today, I started my journey into this new niche. I managed to book six (yes, SIX!) sessions for today’s inaugural session which showed me just how much the people of Swansea want more than just snapshots of their family. I am so proud of how they turned out, and I feel so confident of this new path my business will be taking.
These sessions will be separate to our regular portrait sessions. They will offer hair & make up for a full-service experience. Images will be available for sale by print only, so that you can display with pride and pass down throughout the generations, rather than stuck on a USB which may be obsolete in years to come.
Want to know more information about these new sessions? Just send us an email and we will make sure you’re the first to know!
